Imagine Your Best Future Self And Start Acting Like That Person Today

Most people on this Earth will agree that they aren’t currently what they perceive as the best version of themselves, but they will also agree that they have no idea exactly how to get there. In order to change yourself, you must imagine, or visualise your future self, only then will you be able to start acting like that person.
The Power Of Visualisation
Just visualising your best future self can have a massive impact on the person you will become. The best way to visualise is to find a quiet place where you can close your eyes without interruptions.
Picture yourself as you are now, then picture the person you would like to become. Then repeat this in different time periods. Think of the person you want to be in one week, compared to in one year, and then in five years. Take sufficient time to imagine every single detail, employing the use of the five senses to make the visualisation feel more real.
After you have spent sufficient time imagining these things, spend some time writing these visualisations down. This will help you to have a clear picture of what you wish to achieve, as well as make your goals more tangible.

Set A Clear Path
Chances are, now that you’ve imagined the person you want to become, you will feel that you have your work cut out for you. This is why it’s important to break down your goals into smaller chunks so you can more effectively accomplish them.
For example, if your goal is to be more empathetic, this sentence alone doesn’t really give you a clear path of how to get there. So, after you’ve imagined yourself being more empathetic, write down ways to make it happen. Some examples are, learning about empathy, practicing visualising yourself in another person’s shoes, or possibly the act of engaging in volunteer work to help you connect better with others.

Don’t Wait, Start Now
If your future self is quite different from your current self, you may feel like the task is too large and that there is nothing you can do today. But this is entirely incorrect. Once you have imagined your best self, and spent time writing down how you will get there, all that is left to do is grab the reigns and start!
Because if you put off changing for one day, you will probably put it off another day, and then another, and then you will never become the person you imagined during your visualisation.
As mentioned above, you don’t have to make big changes the first day, but even as you implicate small changes, aim to do what the best version of yourself would do. Then even if you falter, you’ll still be a better person than you were before.
You’ve probably heard the saying “shoot for the moon and if you fall, you’ll fall among the stars” and this is completely true. Trying, even if you fail, is better than constantly putting something off. Because, as everyone knows, tomorrow never comes.

Imagining your best future self can be tricky, but if you do it properly, and set aside enough time for it, you will find it becomes easier and easier with time.
And once you’ve established what the future you is like, the only thing left to do is plan out how you are going to get there and get started right away. You’ll be surprised at how quickly you become the person you want to be when you start today.
